BEAGLE 2

Mars Express Beagle 2 Marconi /Open University 2003

The Beagle 2 project is the British led effort to land a probe on Mars as part of the European Space Agency's Mars Express Mission launched in June 2003. Principal investigator Professor Colin Pillinger.

Beagle 2 was scheduled to land on Mars at 2.54am GMT, 25th December 2003. Contact has not been made with the probe and the fate of the lander is under investigation.

The animation part of this project started in 1998 and continued until 2003. We worked through four revisions of Beagle 2 and six versions of our 3D animation package. For us one of the hardest parts were backwards compatibility and software becoming obsolete but we created a stunning animation.
